  • Ethics and healthcare research. Research looks at ethical issues in medical and public health research, focusing on areas such as: ethical issues arising in research collaborations between industrialised and developing countries; empowerment of research subjects; stigma and HIV.
  • Environmental health, global bioethics and sustainability. The health of the environment, and its impact on human health, is inextricably linked to our values and lifestyles. New research will inter alia focus on air pollution, environmental justice, and sustainable living.
  • Ethics of infectious disease control. How much coercion is required for successful control of an infectious disease like tuberculosis? Existing research relating to infectious disease policies will expand to include ethical, legal and human rights aspects of disease control, both within and between countries.
  • Developing areas in public health ethics. These include genetics and public health, public participation in medical ethics, and research ethics committees.
  • The philosophical and ethical foundations of public health.
  • Health and Human Rights.Work including: Humanitarian health work, investigation of human rights violations in relating to health and researching the links between health and human rights, social justice and equity
